Mets 5 – Pirates 1 August 21, 2010

July 19, 2010 - Phoenix, AZ, United States - epa02254193 New York Mets David Wright watches his fifth inning double down the right field line, during their Major League Baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 19 July, 2010.

The game was originally delayed by rain in Pittsburgh and later called in the sixth inning with the Mets getting a win. It’s the Mets first road series win against a National League team all season. Jon Niese pitched really well again and got a complete game win going 5 innings and only allowing 1 run on 5 hits.

The Mets scored a run in the first on a strange play when Chris Carter struck out, the ball got away from the catcher, and Jose Reyes was at third and took home on the throw to first. Reyes slid into home head first and looked like he might have been injured on the play. But he stayed in the game. David Wright hit a long homer to center in the fifth, a 3-run shot, that put the Mets way ahead and sealed the win.

Although I don’t have a degree in journalism, I love writing about the New York Mets. I’m the typical writer without access. My only accessibility to the Mets is sitting in the stands (often the upper tank) and watching on TV like most fans. I’m not a member of the media, just a fan expressing opinions.
