Mets 6 – Nationals 1 May 26, 2009

Tonight’s game was the Livan Hernandez show. He went the distance only giving up a solo homer to Adam Dunn. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk and threw 127 pitches in the game.

The Mets offense was solid but the big hit came from Gary Sheffield. For the second night in a row he hit a 3-run homer, this one a line shot to straight away left field. His average is up to .291 for the season and he’s filling in quite capably as the Mets cleanup hitter.

The Mets take the second game of three from the Nationals and go for the sweep tomorrow night behind Johan Santana.

That’s what we want from Livan. Let ’em hit the ball! It’s like batting practice for the pros!

Great game for Livan… He gave the bullpen the night off which was very much needed…

How about Fernando?? He looked pretty solid with his cuts… He needs to learn plate disipline… That comes with time and experience and he is only 20 years old… but I like his tools… he showed off his speed last night beating out that double play and getting an RBI…

The future looks bright for that kid… Lets just hope they dont trade him away for a crappy vet…

Oh, and Pagan had a good night too, I dont really like him in the leadoff spot, but he did fine as a fill in for the time being…

Heres hoping the entire lineup keeps hitting like they did last night!!

The way Livan Hernandez pitches it’s still hard for me to figure out how he can even get one out, much less 27 outs in a game. But he did it…

Martinez struck out on 3 pitches twice last night. Hopefully, it’s just the MLB debut jitters and he’ll be over it by tonight.

Pagan’s been doing a good job everywhere they’ve put him. Also, notice that Murphy hasn’t played much at all in the last couple of weeks. It’s time for him to go work on his defense in Buffalo. I think that’s what they’ll do when Brian Schneider comes back from the DL instead of trying to get Omir Santos through waivers to Buffalo.
