Tony Armas, Jr. didn’t look like a Cy Young Award candidate in his spot start but he did get the win. He went six innings giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk. Armas was shaky early in the game giving up a two run homer to Rick Ankiel in the first inning. But he settled down and threw strikes. He doesn’t look like he has much of an arsenal to rely on but may be serviceable as a long man in the bullpen.
The Mets offense woke up tonight! David Wright was 3 for 4 with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Carlos Delgado was 3 for 3 with two doubles. Ramon Castro was the offensive star going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Castro had a two run double in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.
There was a scary moment in the eighth inning. Yadier Molina hit a line drive off the leg of Duaner Sanchez. David Wright picked up the carom and threw out Molina at first base for the last out of the inning. So we don’t know the extent of the injury yet.
