Mets Sign 2009 Top Draft Pick

The Mets signed their top draft pick, second rounder Steven Matz, a left-handed pitcher from Long Island. He signed for a $895,000 signing bonus which is more than his slot as the 72nd overall pick.

The Mets didn’t have a first round pick because of free agent signings this past offseason.

There hasn’t been an official announcement from the team because Matz needs to pass a physical to consummate the deal.

About Dave Doyle

Although I don’t have a degree in journalism, I love writing about the New York Mets. I’m the typical writer without access. My only accessibility to the Mets is sitting in the stands (often the upper tank) and watching on TV like most fans. I’m not a member of the media, just a fan expressing opinions.
