Expect to see plenty of pink bats, sweatbands, and cleats today as MLB goes pink to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer. It’s a great cause that baseball has been very publicly supporting for a few years now. For those of us that know someone that’s been affected by breast cancer, it’s an important cause to bring attention to.

Check out Mark Newman’s excellent column at about the honorary bat girl program happening today as well. For those of you going to the game at Citi Field, make sure you give a big hand to Patricia Colella of Astoria, the Mets honorary ball girl, as someone who’s gone to bat against breast cancer in daily life.

You can also buy your own personalized pink bat or you can bid on the equipment that the players use in today’s games at auction.

Although I don’t have a degree in journalism, I love writing about the New York Mets. I’m the typical writer without access. My only accessibility to the Mets is sitting in the stands (often the upper tank) and watching on TV like most fans. I’m not a member of the media, just a fan expressing opinions.
