Nationals 3 – Mets 1 July 22, 2009

The Mets look horrible right now. The game was preceded by Omar Minaya saying that the Mets are investigating bad behavior and poor judgment by Tony Bernazard.  Then the Mets go on to lose the game and the series to the lowly Nationals.

Mike Pelfrey recovered from his disasterous start in Atlanta to pitch a good game. He went 7 innings giving up only 3 runs.

Luis Castillo was ejected from the game for arguing a call at second base in the second inning. He bobbled the ball on a force out throw from David Wright. The ejection was very quick, so he must have said the magic word to the umpire.

As usual, the Mets had no offense. They only managed 4 hits in the game. The lineup they’re putting out there everyday now is so weak that they may end up falling below the Nationals in the standings before this season is over.

Although I don’t have a degree in journalism, I love writing about the New York Mets. I’m the typical writer without access. My only accessibility to the Mets is sitting in the stands (often the upper tank) and watching on TV like most fans. I’m not a member of the media, just a fan expressing opinions.

  1. Small Victories Dave. They actually scored a run this evening. That’s more than they scored the night before!
Ground Out. Ground Out. Ground Out. Lumber is softly hitting the ball.

  2. Can you say “FIRE SALE?”

It needs to happen… lets get it done… give me prospects and draft picks… I am ready to go young and exciting… not old and boring…

    1. I couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately, Omar Minaya told reporters before yesterday’s game that the Mets will be buyers. His reasoning is that they’re only 6.5 games back in the wild card. It’s insanity! This team is going nowhere fast. They don’t have much to trade away but they should unload whatever garbage from this roster that they can.

      1. Dave this hurts my brain…

How can we get our point across to the Mets brass?? We all know there is no shot this year, we all know we need to get younger and need to shed payroll… Why are they not listening to all the fans calling for major changes??
