On Deck- July 27- Cardinals at Mets Game 3

St. Louis Cardinals (58-48 Road: 28-23) at New York Mets (56-48 Home: 31-20) 1:10pm

Kyle Lohse (12-2 3.35) vs. Johan Santana (8-7 3.05)

TV: CW11   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cardinals rise and shine early this morning to play again after a late game last night. Lohse hasn’t had a bad start since June 25th. Hopefully, that means he’s due. Santana hasn’t lost a game in a month, and has pitched well enough to win many times this season but hasn’t. The Mets offense owes Santana more support than they’ve given him.

Just a thought on Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan. He gets major props on resurrecting pitchers from the scrap heap, however, has anyone noted how many Cardinal pitchers have had career threatening arm injuries under him? here is a quick list off the top of my head- Mark Mulder, Jason Isrignhausen,Chris Carpenter,Adam Wainright,Troy Percival and Matt Morris. just a thought!

That’s a good point. He really does seem to have a way to get the most out of pitchers. I’m still shocked that Braden Looper is a semi-successful starter. I’m not sure that the injuries correlate to a higher number for the Cardinals though. Look at the Cubs and Kerry Wood and Mark Prior. Their two best pitchers in the last 15 years both have major injuries. But there is a large number for the Cardinals.

When Cards picked up Looper he was coming off an injury already, as us Mets fans watched him trying to pitch through it without knowing about it or how bad it was. Looper deserves credit for his efforts here and for silently taking abuse from us”loyal” fans 🙂
Your point on Wood and Prior are valid points. If you klook back at the As pitchers under Duncan, those guys blew up pretty quickly as well. not all of them, but a lot. I have posted a link to some pics from Shea from 7/8/08 Pelfey against Lincecum here is link http://www.flickr.com/photos/robinschwartz/
ignore the other pics if you want, hehe
